Colonial Academy

K-4 through Grade 8

Colonial Academy has been a ministry of Colonial Baptist Church since its beginning in 1988. God has richly blessed the academy and the church.

TEACHERS
All of our teachers are Christians who are able to teach effectively and who are motivated by a God-given love for their students. Our teachers are dedicated to helping each student academically, spiritually and socially.

ADMISSIONS
Acceptance to Colonial Academy is based on former records, personal interview and possibly a placement test. Applications are available in the school office.

CURRICULUM
We hold a traditional approach to classroom instruction. The majority of our textbooks are published by A Beka Book, Pensacola, Florida. Curriculum includes but is not limited to the grades listed on this page.

Kindergarten (Four-year olds) or K-4
Reading readiness, alphabet with phonic sounds, counting, Bible, Scripture memory, art, nursery rhymes, singing, health, manners, outdoor play, safety.

Kindergarten (Five-year olds) or K-5
Bible, Scripture memory, character training, phonics: letter sounds, special rules, blends and words; reading; numbers: counting and number concepts to 100, number sequences and combinations; writing, are poetry, music, social living skills, science and physical education. Preschool is not a prerequisite for entering kindergarten.

First Grade
Review of kindergarten material, Bible, Scripture memory, science, character training, writing, spelling, reading: advanced programs with Christian readers, plans for children in all levels of achievement; phonics: drill and word analysis skills, arithmetic: emphasis on addition, subtraction, telling time, story problems; music and art activities, physical education.

Second Grade
Review of first grade material. Bible, Scripture memory, character training, social studies, science, reading: phonics, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, penmanship (manuscript and cursive); arithmetic: addition, subtraction, time, money, story problems, simple fractions, and introduction to multiplication; music and art activities, physical education.

Third Grade
Review of second grade material. Bible, Scripture memory, character training, reading: phonics, vocabulary, grammar, penmanship, spelling, poetry; science, social studies, arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, story problems, fractions, etc.; music and art activities, physical education.

Fourth Grade
Review of third grade material. Bible, Scripture memory, character training, improving reading speed, spelling and vocabulary, penmanship, English: grammar, creative writing; science, math: drill in speed and accuracy in the math processes, multiplication facts, multiplying by two-digit numbers, working with fractions, measures; physical education, music and art activities.

Fifth Grade
Review of fourth grade material. Bible, Scripture memory, character training, reading, spelling, vocabulary, English: grammar, creative writing, science, math: drill in speed and accuracy in the math processes, multiplication facts, multiplying by two-digit numbers, working with fractions, measures; physical education, music and art activities.
